St. Ignatius Church Repair, St. Francis Rectory
13891 W Mission Road, Stone Lake, WI 54876
St. Ignatius Church in the village of New Post is located on County Trunk CC on the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation in Sawyer County.
St. Ignatius Church dates back to 1884 when St. Anthony Church was established to serve the Ojibwa people. The church was partially erected by Franciscan Fr. Casimir Vogt and completed during the pastorate of Franciscan Fr. Sylvester Buschkuhler. The present church was built in 1934 under the patronage of St. Ignatius in New Post. This new and present day location for the church was chosen two or three miles from present day Church Island, where St. Anthony Church had stood before the flooding of about 20,000 acres known as the Chippewa Flowage, by the Wisconsin-Minnesota Light and Power Company.
The 1934 constructed church is in great need of repair. This was clearly brought to the attention of the parishioners at a church meeting about four years ago by the present pastor, Fr. Greg Hopefl, who also servers St. Francis Solanus Mission at Reserve and St. Philip Parish in Stone Lake. The first item is indeed the battered, weathered roof. There is also interior work to repair the whole plumbing system plus painting, etc.
The complete estimate of repairs would be about $60,000. Fundraisers have begun with private donations. So far, the Building Fund has generated $3,000. Please, we need more fundraisers. Whatever anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Also, we remember you in our daily prayers.
